The 2026 Festival featured an ambitious season of two fully staged productions, with GYPSY presented alongside Carrie: The Musical. Students also participated in a masterclass with Broadway performer and educator Jeanna de Waal, who originated the role of Chris Hargensen in MCC Theater’s reimagined production of Carrie before going on to star on Broadway as Diana, Princess of Wales in Diana: The Musical.
Set against the fading world of vaudeville and the rise of burlesque in the 1920s and ’30s, GYPSY follows the formidable Mama Rose as she relentlessly pursues stardom for her daughters—and, perhaps, for herself. With a landmark book by Arthur Laurents and a celebrated score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, GYPSY explores ambition, family, sacrifice and the complicated pursuit of success in show business. Its legendary score includes “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “Together Wherever We Go,” “You Gotta Get a Gimmick” and the iconic “Rose’s Turn.”
