In the summer of 2025, Long Island Musical Theatre Festival presented BYE BYE BIRDIE: YOUTH EDITION for our intermediate program production.
As a part of our intermediate program, our young performers got to sit in on a master class with Tony-winning Broadway legend and 3x Grammy nominee Melba Moore. Ms. Moore began her Broadway career in HAIR and her powerful voice spanned R&B, soul, rock, jazz, gospel, and pop — earning hits like “Lean On Me” and “Read My Lips,” and making her one of just three Black women ever Grammy-nominated in the Rock category.
The students also performed “Children Will Listen” in Raise Your Voice With Melba Moore, our 2025 Music Revue Performance. Melba also performed in our revue, including her two signature songs from Purlie “Purlie” and “I Got Love”.
